Do you ever feel like God is testing you?  Has He ever called you to do something that requires extreme faith and trust that He will make everything work out in His precious and perfect time?

A big struggle we have dealt with is the size of our family.   God has opened our eyes to many things, including the fact that children are so much more than what modern society perceives them to be.  To put it simply, they are a blessing and a reward from the Lord, and He values them greatly.  Here are just a few scriptural passages where we can see this:

  • Psalm 127:3–“Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him.”
  • Psalm 127:5–“Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them…”
  • Matthew 18:5–“And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.”
  • Mark 9:37–“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
  • Mark 10:14–“…Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
  • Luke 9:48–“Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.  For he who is least among you all–he is the greatest.”

There are many stories throughout the Bible of people being “blessed” with a child.  That our society sees children as a burden is a fact that simply breaks my heart.

Several years ago, God called us to open ourselves up to adopting a child.  Then, a year later, He called us again.  Since that time, He has impressed upon us a calling to be “willing and ready” to adopt any child that he sends us, regardless of sex or race.  After we adopted N, we prayed about whether to update our homestudy.  We were never given a peace, and felt that, while we had a calling to be willing, God was telling us to “wait.”  We now feel that has changed.

We have been praying fervently about this and feel He is telling us to proceed with our next homestudy.  We are thrilled to announce that we have submitted an application, and may soon be beginning our next homestudy.  We are well aware that what we perceive as a “calling” may be something we are mis-interpreting.  While we feel fairly confident and at peace that we are making the right decision, and while we have made it with tremendous amounts of prayer and Bible-study, we know that it could possibly be a wrong turn.  That is why we are also stepping out on faith.  Faith that God is true to His word, and that He knows our hearts and will allow His plan to proceed.  Our calling is to be willing and ready, and that is what we are doing.  We are willing, but in order to be ready, we must complete a homestudy.  That’s where we are now.  We have not yet made a decision regarding an agency, lawyer, or facilitator, and are still praying about that.  But we are making ourselves ready.  We are evaluating our housing situation and needs for an additional child, as we have a history of incredibly fast placements.  I have also started updating our family profile.  Once the homestudy is complete, though, it is in God’s hands and God’s timing.  If it is His will for us to have another child, the homestudy will be completed and He will bring the child to us.  If not, He won’t.  We have faith in that, and look forward to what our future holds.  We hope that you can rejoice with us, and take joy in “welcoming these little ones.”
