Like most farms, Red Gate Farm has a few cats to greet you when you arrive.

Callie is our matriarch, and is unique, to say the least.  She has a condition known as cerebral hypoplasia.  Resembling a drunken cat, she lacks fine motor coordination, walks funny, falls over easily, and has absolutely no sense of self-preservation or defense.  However, she is also the absolute sweetest cat you will ever meet.  She is very dependent on people, and the best family cat anyone could ask for!

Two days after we moved into Red Gate Farm, we were cleaning out the barn, and mice were scurrying around our feet.  Not impressed, I drove over to the animal shelter the next morning.  They have a deal where they offer less adoptable kitties for free to good homes needing barn cats.  We adopted 3, and haven’t seen a mouse since (except the occasional remains of one that the cats have appropriately dealt with–BLEGH!)
